My son Calvin just started running Cross Country for his new High School (Horizon Hawks) a couple of weeks ago. I just talked him into running about a month ago. I told him it would be a great way for him to get in shape for basketball season. (his first love) He has now run two meets so far and he is doing so great! His first meet he ran 19:20 for 2.5 miles and his meet yesterday he ran 22:40 for 5000 meters (3.1 miles) I think he is beginning to see that distance running is a sport he may be able to excel in. I have to admit that when he was getting ready to run his first meet a couple of weeks ago, I got a little emotional seeing him in his running shorts and nylon singlet. I had a flashback to 30 years ago when I was getting ready to run my first Cross Country race. Like Father like son I guess.
I've just begun running again after a 5 year hiatus & it is indeed emotional. I'd forgotten how tranquil and prayerful it can be. My run at S. Mountain Park brought tears to my eyes last weekend.
